Overview
A unique and secluded camp unobtrusively located along the banks of the Mwagusi River in Ruaha National Park, dubbed one of Tanzania's best kept secrets. Ruaha offers untold rewards to those who venture off the beaten track with dramatic landscapes, abundant wildlife and a fleeting glimpse of an Africa long-forgotten.
Highly skilled and well-trained guides offer guests the opportunity to share in their passion for the African bush and benefit from their years of experience. With specially adapted, open-sided 4WD vehicles, guests are afforded the very best game viewing experience that Ruaha has to offer.
Mwagusi Safari Camp offers a fully en-suite tented experience with a unique and naturally-inspired design that reflects understated safari elegance. Recline in the comfort of your private verandah and witness the pristine wilderness undisturbed. Enjoy excellent and attentive service in a warm and peaceful atmosphere.
Each "banda" (meaning 'temporary shelter') consists of a large spacious tent sheltered by a cooling thatch roof and set on a polished red floor. Each banda has en-suite facilities with flushing toilet, an unlimited supply of hot water, shower, sink, shelving, a large mirror and good night-time lighting. Built using stones, driftwood and bones the bathroom is an area of interesting, unique and original design. Thick comfortable towels and locally produced clove soap are provided.
An efficient same-day laundry service that is free of charge is offered. The tented living area includes dressing table and mirror, trunk for storage, comfortable beds with high-density mattresses, safari style chairs and bedside tables for night-time reading. All the "bandas" are built into the sandy banks of the Mwagusi River providing their own private and secluded view. Each has large covered verandah, with a comfortable cushioned seating area and swinging hammock, making this the perfect place to relax and view the passing wildlife.
Enjoy delicious meals with a huge variety of fresh produce in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. All food is prepared with special care and attention using unique personally-styled recipes. Scrumptious evening meals are complemented by romantic candle-light under the blanket of African stars.
Mwagusi Safari Camp operates as a self-sustainable bush camp with the aim to have little or no impact on its environment. The camp has been constructed in perfect harmony with the beauty of the bush. Wherever possible, natural resources with a minimal carbon footprint are used.
At Mwagusi Safari Camp, we are serious about safari, and offer our guests excellent game drives and walks. There are two daily game drives, one early morning drive and one late afternoon drive taking advantage of the cooler temperatures when the animals are most active.
Flexibility is key at Mwagusi and you can choose the time and length of your game drives (from a 6 hour early morning drive, other shorter 2-3 hour drives or a full-day drive with picnic lunch). You will be accompanied by one of our excellent and knowledgeable guides and an experienced driver.
Our vehicles are specially adapted open sided 4WD vehicles each with comfortable seats and high shade awning to enable one to stand and still be in the shade whilst game viewing. Each vehicle is equipped with reference books, beanbags for photography, drinks and all the necessities for a day in the bush. All vehicles carry radios for communication with the camp.
Dramatic landscapes, a huge variety of plant and bird life and an abundance of animals make Ruaha the perfect safari holiday destination. Situated in Southern Tanzania, Ruaha National Park makes up part of the less-frequented southern tourist circuit. Currently only one third of Ruaha's 20,226 sq km area is used for tourism leaving a greater majority of wilderness untouched and undiscovered.
