Overview

An immersive introduction to the city of contrasts!

Mumbai is a city of contrasts. India's capital and most cosmopolitan city, also the center of the country's thriving film industry, popularly known as Bollywood, Mumbai is home to some 15 million people. No city highlights the glaring contrasts between the wealthy and the poor, or the indomitable spirit to succeed as Mumbai does.

After meeting your guide, you will set off to explore what some people call "Maximum City"! Your introduction to Mumbai will engage each of your five senses by partaking in various experiences, providing an immersive perspective of the city.

Traditionally, Mumbai city tours have been just about monuments and buildings. But, Mumbai is as much about people and their distinct culture as it is about history. This tour pays homage to Mumbai in its entirety through fun and engaging activities that go beyond history lessons.

First, we will highlight 'sight' - enjoy a historic walk through the colonial precinct of Mumbai, covering major landmarks such as the Gateway of India, Victoria Terminus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and the Royal Bombay Yacht Club. You will watch the ‘dabbawalas’ sorting lunch boxes at Churchgate Station. And of course, you will see the teeming population of the city go about their busy lives.

Next up, we will introduce you to the famous 'sound' of Mumbai. A visit to a contemporary dance studio will have you “groovin’ and movin’”! But hey, who wouldn’t shake a leg (or more) when it’s Bollywood Music you’re listening to? Even for those with two left feet, your personal Bollywood dance choreographer will take you through the basic steps – certainly enough to impress your friends back home!

By now we're sure you've worked up an appetite - it's time to 'taste' Mumbai. Nothing says more about a city than the local cuisine. You will have the opportunity to gorge on a traditional thaali, a variety of delicacies served in small bowls. The Konkan cuisine features amazing seafood and is known for its pepper crabs and coconut based curries.

After lunch, we will visit the Mumbai Spice Market where the aroma will hit you before you arrive! Learn about various spices and their therapeutic properties. If you like, you can not only buy the spices, but can also get them dry roasted and ground into the mixture of your choice. It’s not uncommon to see ladies patiently waiting, with bags of spices and a recipe that has been handed down for generations!

Touch – A perfect end to this collage of experiences is to be able to touch people’s lives. What better way to do this, than to spend time with local children and talk to them about your home country? You will also participate in learning a skill or playing a game with them.
