Overview
A full day of island perfection.
Which is more beautiful...Bora Bora's lush mountainous interior or its dazzling crystal clear waters? Decide for yourself on this all-encompassing combo tour.
Your day in paradise begins by boarding your locally-made 28' boat for a small, intimate experience in Bora Bora's pristine waters. As you glide along the lagoon, marvel at the subtle hues of azure, teal, and aquamarine just beneath your boat.
The nearby reefs are teeming with life and you will stop to observe small reef sharks who call this area their home. They are harmless and fascinating to watch as you swim above them.
If you're ready for a bit more interaction with sea life, you will thoroughly enjoy an up-close encounter with the local stingrays in waist-deep water. They are quite familiar with people and will offer a friendly greeting by brushing you with their velvety skin as they "fly" by. With their mouths on the bottom of their body (but no teeth), they are happy to gently take a fish from your outstretched fingers as they swim over your hands.
Your captain will head to the Coral Garden, where you'll don mask and snorkel for a spectacle of movement and color provided by angelfish and white and black convict tangs. They, too, are used to visitors and are looking forward to eating a bit of bread right out of your hand.
To add to the excitement of this day, head to our own private motu (island). Bora Bora has many, many motu dotting the seascape but this one has the added advantage of a hill, perfect for a climb with fantastic views. Here you'll be treated to a delicious BBQ lunch with salad bar. Rested and refreshed after your lunch break, climb back into the boat as your talented captain serenades you with the songs of his homeland.
Back on land and refreshed after lunch, we'll climb into 4 x 4 vehicles to explore the rugged interior of Bora Bora. As we make our way around the island, your local guide will explain the history, culture, flora, and fauna of this island paradise. From the great Tahitian sea-faring society beginning around 1000 AD to the many legends of the island, you are in for an educational (and maybe a bit bumpy) ride.
We'll hear about the American troops who were stationed here during World War II, learn about "Operation Bobcat" and see several of the sites associated with this "friendly takeover" including the Faanui Canon.
As the tour makes its way around the island, you will come to appreciate the advantage of these special vehicles when visiting vantage points accessible only by 4x4. The view of Matira Beach from Ringo's lookout will be worth any bumps along the way.
A stop at a local family-owned Pareu (wrap-around skirt or sarong) workshop will demonstrate how these beautiful tie-dyed garments are made. Purchase one to take home as the perfect reminder of this wonderful day.
Before the tour comes to an end, you'll venture into Faanui Valley to see small fruit plantations and sample some fresh, delicious produce and locally-made foods.
