OverviewA visit to the nation's capitol is a lesson in democracy everyone should experience. When we watch the news on TV from the comfort of our living room, it's hard to appreciate our country's history and the enormous task of keeping our democracy strong and vibrant. A trip to Washington D.C. will remind us of the foresight and brilliance of our Founding Fathers and the measures they put in place to protect our freedoms. This tour will highlight some of the most important buildings in "DC". To view the White House is to view our history. Home to every president since John Adams, it is remarkable and important to realize the significant, history-changing decisions that have taken place within these walls. The Capitol Building, home to the US Congress, is a striking piece of architecture. The iconic rotunda is awe-inspiring and a reminder of the important work that takes place here. You'll view the Rotunda, the Crypt, National Statuary Hall and the film "Out of Many, One" which explains our representative democracy. The Supreme Court evokes images of distinguished judges in black robes, presiding over some of the most significant legal issues of our day. You will have the opportunity to enter the courtroom, learn about the judicial process and discover exactly what the responsibilities of the judges are, along with some remarkable stories. Thomas Jefferson...Founding Father, principal author of the Declaration of Independence, President, foreign minister, philosopher, farmer. It is only fitting that the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress reflects the stature of the man. The building is an architectural marvel, with marble columns, colorful frescos, a stained glass skylight and a gorgeous reading room. It also contains rare books from Thomas Jefferson's personal collections. - There is walking involved in this tour. Please wear comfortable footwear. - For Saturday tours, the interior of the Supreme Court Building will not be included. - Gratuity for the driver IS included in the cost of the tour. - Gratuity for the guide is NOT included in the price of the tour.
