Gibb's Farm is an oasis of green, calm and beauty, in a landscape that can often be parched, dry and dusty. At the entrance to the Crater Highlands, midway between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, 5 km from the village of Karatu.
The gentle and soothing ways of Gibb's Farm offer a welcome retreat for the traveler on safari to Tanzania. You will discover an organic oasis, replete with natural beauty, healthful food and sustainable living. The oldest guest house in Northern Tanzania, we are committed to the well-being of our guests, community and natural environment.
A sense of purpose is celebrated with healthful, organic
(macrobiotics) foods and elegant, but understated presentations. Organic Arabica coffee is grown, processed using traditional methods and roasted on the farm. A 10-acre organic fruit, vegetable and herb garden, on-site dairy and bakery provide the wonderful ingredients for our farm-to-table cuisine.
Overlooking the coffee fields and stunning East African vista, surrounded by terraced flower gardens and ancient trees, Gibb's Farm offers a retreat from the rigors of daily life or the adventures of safari. Gibb's Farm's rustic charm and gracious accommodations provide an ideal sanctuary for a few day's respite while on safari or for an extended vacation or honeymoon getaway. The 1929 farmhouse and five cottages comprised the original guesthouse in 1972. Today, 17 guest cottages—each featuring a unique theme and richly appointed with eucalyptus floors, hand-crafted furniture, two queen-size beds, indoor and outdoor showers, a fireplace and private verandah—provide an elegant home away from home, with all of the cozy comforts. A cottage with a common living area and two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms is available for families or couples traveling together.
The bright, airy dining rooms are a delightful way to begin and end each day. The rustic style of the farmhouse has been replicated throughout the dining rooms, which feature exposed trusses, adzed beams, wooden ceilings, iron work and old stone fireplaces. With soaring glass windows that frame the coffee fields and majestic distant views, the dining rooms combine an upscale, down-home decor with forest-inspired colors to create a cozy, elegant setting.
After a private consultation, we will design a personal treatment for you. Treatments are based upon the healing powers of nature and may include freshly harvested and prepared botanicals to enhance your experience. Drawing from over 50 different indigenous plants, our naturally-derived treatments include Engorno Milk Massage, Floral Foot Soak, Oljingai Heat Revival and Olorien Hot Wood Treatment.
