Private: Fort Brimstone In DepthExplore > Saint Kitts and Nevis > Saint Kitts > Private: Fort Brimstone In DepthOverviewYour visit will be embedded as a memorable stop, as was ours. Even 10 years ago, when we first took the time to explore the fort, the history displays were wonderful. Now they are even more complete. St. Kitts is unique in that you can circle the island and see just about everything in half a day. The experience, however, is more panoramic than in-depth. The history of this island is interesting and is most memorable upon entering Fort Brimstone. St. Kitts has taken the wise step of preserving this fort and its history. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has historical, cultural, and architectural significance. It is a monument to the ingenuity of the British military engineers who designed it. It is also a tribute to the African slaves who built and maintained it. And it is also one of the earliest examples of a new style of fortification known as polygonal. As one of the best preserved historical fortresses in the Americas, it is worth your time to visit and learn about how it has earned its designation. Brimstone Hill is almost 800 feet high with steep slopes, a perfect location for protection. Of course, modifications were made to bring the materials and the people to the top in order to accomplish this feat. The location of the fort allows for panoramic views of the rain forest, the fields allotted to farming, and the neighboring islands across the Caribbean Sea. Once you arrive at the top, you will have ample time to explore fascinating displays on the island's history and learn about how Fort Brimstone played a role in St. Kitts' success. This is well worth your visit. - Visit the fabulous gift shop and receive 10% off special handmade items such as the unusual cannons. - You will have 90 minutes for a self guided tour of Fort Brimstone - enjoy the Fort at your own pace. - All guests must sign a waiver prior to taking the tour.
