Mauna Kea Beach Hotel offers the perfect location on the sunny Kohala Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. Situated on a beautiful crescent beach, the luxury resort offers guests the ideal setting for a relaxing getaway in paradise.

Laurance S. Rockefeller founded The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel in 1965. He knew the great beach at Kauna'oa also deserved spectacular golf and exceptional dining to accompany the most exclusive and expensive resort of its day.

Four decades later, following a $150 million repair and renovation, The Mauna Kea once again stands as a landmark of luxury on the Big Island's golden Kohala Coast.

Google Reviews

About Google Reviews: recently Google has converted their review system to require reviewers to have a proper, identifiable Google+ profile. This is a good thing, as it tends to cut down on bad reviews, both from people unwilling to stand behind their comments and fake positive reviews from the businesses themselves. Old, pre-Google+ reviews are still in the system, and will appear below as written by "A Google User". More info from Google is here.

Review:   Beautiful location on Hawaii Island, gorgeous beach with a restaurant right there so you can grab a bite or a drink and take it back to your chair. Clean, good-sized room with a stunning view of the water. Gorgeous landscaping! Night time manta-ray snorkel was a highlight of our stay, and right at the hotel! The hotel staff was friendly and very helpful, ready to provide tips and help us book the expeditions we wanted! Our weeklong stay was perfect!

Review:   I did not stay at this hotel. However, if I could afford to, I would not hesitate! My daughter and I spent the day here and had an absolutely wonderful time. The beach is beautiful and the grounds impeccably landscaped. There are chairs on the beach for lounging, SUP and other rentals, and a nice restaurant/bar right on the beach with great food. I spoke with several employees that I encountered and every one of them was friendly and polite. The sandy beach is a protected cove and great for children. Wonderful place!

Review:   Manta rays swim right up against the shore (near the rocks) - amazing! You can also watch from above on a lookout point. Parking might be valet only for non-guests of this hotel. It looked like most people on the beach were hotel guests, so it felt sort of secluded. The sunset was beautiful.

Review:   The antiquities on-site at the Mauna Kea position it as a museum open for all to see. What an amazing collection! In the evening, manta rays can be viewed from a lighted terrace. The beach is incredible with beautiful sunsets. Rooms are well-appointed, as expected from a 5 star hotel..

Review:   We have had many wonderful experience at this hotel on one of the best beaches on the Big Island. We just returned from a trip and the service was so "off" for a hotel of this price and reputation. The staff at the pool must be over worked or at least understaffed. The prices and the service, and quality of the food don't match up, nor do the drinks. It was not a special visit this time. We are going elsewhere...
