Mauna Kea Beach Hotel offers the perfect location on the sunny Kohala Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. Situated on a beautiful crescent beach, the luxury resort offers guests the ideal setting for a relaxing getaway in paradise.

Laurance S. Rockefeller founded The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel in 1965. He knew the great beach at Kauna'oa also deserved spectacular golf and exceptional dining to accompany the most exclusive and expensive resort of its day.

Four decades later, following a $150 million repair and renovation, The Mauna Kea once again stands as a landmark of luxury on the Big Island's golden Kohala Coast.

Google Reviews

About Google Reviews: recently Google has converted their review system to require reviewers to have a proper, identifiable Google+ profile. This is a good thing, as it tends to cut down on bad reviews, both from people unwilling to stand behind their comments and fake positive reviews from the businesses themselves. Old, pre-Google+ reviews are still in the system, and will appear below as written by "A Google User". More info from Google is here.

Review:   Beautiful hotel with luxurious touches. From the moment you arrive at the front gate, the luxury awaiting you is apparent! The grounds are meticulously maintained and are simply stunning. The checkin procedure is intimate and individualized! The lobby is open and beautiful. Elegant touches can be found in every glance of the eye. The rooms are luxurious and homey! Truly a home away from home. You will not miss your own bed at all once you have slept here. This hotel is truly a step above the rest!

Review:   Completed my stay here last week, and cannot say enough good things about this property. First off the welcome and reception at the hotel was top notch - a warm aloha, lei greeting, a personalized, sit down check-in process with cool towels and fresh guava juice, and all while enjoying the open air lobby overlooking the beach. The room and service staff were also fantastic. The rooms are updated and well maintained, and the day cleaning crew and nightly turndown staff did a nice job. We especially appreciated the bottled water provided daily. The orchid flower on the pillows during turndown was also a nice touch. By far the highlight of the hotel is the location. The beach it sits on is perfect. Long stretch of white sand, very clear and mostly calm waters, and the hotel has a viewing point for Manta rays that’s we were able to see each night during our stay. Thanks for the great experience! The only part of my stay I didn’t enjoy was having to leave. But will definitely stay here next time I’m visiting the big island!

Review:   My favorite, easily accessible, public beach on the island. You have to walk about a quarter of a mile from the parking lot to the beach, but it is so worth it! No need for me to post photos since mine look just like the pictures on Google. The water here is very gentle, comparable to the beaches of the gulf coast of Florida. Definitely not a beach to boogie board at, since the waves are nil. I can't remember the number of times I visited this beach, but it's definitely high. The hotel is worth it if you want to spend the money. I'll definitely stay at the hotel again, just like I'll definitely return to the beach.

Review:   We did not stay here because we were already at the Marriott but we would have had we known first. The resort is classy and large. The manta rays are awesome at night and the food and service at one of the restaurants we ate at was top notch. We loved the ambiance. Can't speak to the rooms because we didn't stay there but can't imagine we'd be disappointed given our other experiences there.

Review:   I did not stay at this hotel. However, if I could afford to, I would not hesitate! My daughter and I spent the day here and had an absolutely wonderful time. The beach is beautiful and the grounds impeccably landscaped. There are chairs on the beach for lounging, SUP and other rentals, and a nice restaurant/bar right on the beach with great food. I spoke with several employees that I encountered and every one of them was friendly and polite. The sandy beach is a protected cove and great for children. Wonderful place!
