Mauna Kea Beach Hotel offers the perfect location on the sunny Kohala Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. Situated on a beautiful crescent beach, the luxury resort offers guests the ideal setting for a relaxing getaway in paradise.

See thumbnails of all photos for this point of interest.

Laurance S. Rockefeller founded The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel in 1965. He knew the great beach at Kauna'oa also deserved spectacular golf and exceptional dining to accompany the most exclusive and expensive resort of its day.

Four decades later, following a $150 million repair and renovation, The Mauna Kea once again stands as a landmark of luxury on the Big Island's golden Kohala Coast.

Google Reviews

About Google Reviews: recently Google has converted their review system to require reviewers to have a proper, identifiable Google+ profile. This is a good thing, as it tends to cut down on bad reviews, both from people unwilling to stand behind their comments and fake positive reviews from the businesses themselves. Old, pre-Google+ reviews are still in the system, and will appear below as written by "A Google User". More info from Google is here.

Review:   Wow. This place is amazing. Employees are friendly, the resort is relaxed Hawaiian elegance. Food is amazing, rooms are excellent, most with ocean views. The beach is the seller for me. White sand beach with great snorkeling by the rocks. Manta rays come up to feed on the plankton when the restaurant shines the light on the cove they swim in at night. Book early. This place is always popular with generations coming here year after year. Almost impossible to get a room/villa over holiday season.

Review:   There is a lot to love about this place, but also a few places where it falls short. The staff is amazing. The architecture and art are amazing. The rooms are clean and have beautiful views. However, the drinks in all the restaurants are too expensive, the pillows are all down and offer little support, and you have to order ice from room service. There are no ice machines.

Review:   We had drinks on the terrace outside Manta before going in for dinner. It was an amazing view at sunset. Dinner was just as good. Our server was on top of pairing wine with the tasty fish dishes. The mudslide cake was a great finish to the meal.

Review:   If I could give this hotel 6 stars, I would. My wife and I have stayed at many SPG, Marriott, and Hyatt hotels around the world and this resort is by far the best. Every staff member here deserves AAA+++ grades. Hotel grounds, pool and beach were top notch. Restaurants are reasonably priced and delicious. Our room was clean modern and huge. We spent most of our lazy time on the huge balcony. Thanks for the best vacation ever!!!
