Explore the unique archaeological site of Delos.
Depart from Mykonos and travel to the ancient harbor of Delos island, which, for centuries was a major religious center. Delos is now an uninhabited island full of history and beautiful ruins.
From the old port of Mykonos you will board one of the local ferries to transport you to Delos, the island of light. According to Greek Mythology, Delos is the birthplace of the God Apollo and the Goddess Artemis. Its name means "that which appears" and legend has it that the island appeared amid the waves so that Leto would have a place to give birth to Apollo and Artemis.
Delos Island, an area of only two square miles, was once a very important religious, cultural, and commercial center. Located in the middle of the Cyclades island group, Delos was perfectly positioned to become an important trade center in the Mediterranean.
Today, the island is uninhabited, but a very important site was revealed in the early 19th century which is comprised of ancient ruins, artifacts, fallen columns, statues, sections of the famous mosaics (which adorned the houses of the rich), a stadium, and tiers of seats from a theatre. Among these ruins, five marble lions in a row still stand. These were the guardians of the sacred lake, still gazing out to the east, waiting for the sun to rise. Other interesting monuments, spread over a wide area, are the Agora, the treasuries of the various cities, the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Theatre, the Sanctuary of the Foreign Gods, and the Sacred Mt. Cynthus.
The island of Delos was once a hub of activity and an important site of religious significance. As Delos was the birthplace of Apollo, people came from around the world to this ancient site to pay homage to the God of music, beauty, and light.
Leaving the sacred island of Delos, you will re-board the local ferry to return to Mykonos.
- The site of Delos will be explored on foot. Please wear low-heeled, comfortable shoes, and bring a hat and bottled water. Be prepared for 2 hours of extensive walking, at times over uneven surfaces.
- The price of this tour includes a private guide for the whole duration of the tour, a ferry ticket, and entrance fees for Delos.

If you wish to see the Archaeological Museum, which is small but lovely, there is no entrance fee. Because of its size, we do not generally go there. If you wish to visit it, just tell your guide.- English-speaking guides are in great demand in Greece, particularly on the islands. Last-minute requests are difficult to confirm. Thank you for your understanding.
- PLEASE NOTE: This tour does not include a private vehicle. Your guide will meet you when you disembark your cruise ship and will ride with you on the shuttle between the ship and the ferry to Delos.
- Delos will be open 7 days a week (including Mondays) from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. from April 1-October 31.
- Please note that the Sunday Supplement also applies to the following Public Holidays in 2020: January 1; March 2nd; March 25th, April 17th-19th; May 1st; June 8th; August 15th; October 28th and December 25th and 26th.
