Overview

Even before you are welcomed to the Royal Kona Resort by the gracious staff you will be embraced by a swirl of salt air, the life-breath of the islands. You will see it ruffling the fronds of the palm trees that fringe the 12 manicured acres, tossing the waves against the stark black lava rocks at the property's feet, marching columns of clouds across the uninterrupted expanse of sky. The air here presents you with the perfume of tropical flowers.

It is a reminder that you are on the Big Island of Hawai'i, a reminder to breathe, to exhale, and completely relax.

Review:   Recommended for: Beachfront Restaurant and Bar

Pros: Ambience, view , closest bar/restaurant to the oceanfront Missy's Aloha in the bar is 5 star service.

Google Reviews

About Google Reviews: recently Google has converted their review system to require reviewers to have a proper, identifiable Google+ profile. This is a good thing, as it tends to cut down on bad reviews, both from people unwilling to stand behind their comments and fake positive reviews from the businesses themselves. Old, pre-Google+ reviews are still in the system, and will appear below as written by "A Google User". More info from Google is here.

Review:   Very nice location! Great view. The pool area was very nice, we have kids ranging in age from 2 to 14, and they all loved it. Great views of the gorgeous sunsets from the pool area. The house keeping did a great job on the room, they put so much care on arranging our shoes and toothbrushes. Just the little touches were nice!

Review:   We had our wedding with Royal Kona Resort on 8/8/18 and it was fabulous. Seriously well done. If I could give the resort higher than a 5/5 rating I would instantly do it. They far exceeded my expectations as the food was great, the wedding planning went smoothly, and the whole experience was everything I had imagined and more. The wedding planners and on site coordinator really helped make everything fantastic. If you are hesitant about having a destination wedding, this is the place to go.

Review:   Drinks are awesome! Food is great! Rooms are clean, and smoke free. The resort does have designated smoking areas, which is nice since I don't like walking a mile just to have a smoke. The luau was fun to watch, and they have live music in the bar on certain nights. Everyone was helpful.

Review:   So only 3 stArs because we were not in the main building. We were in a separate tower next door. Were promised a ‘sea view’ which was not a lie - it was just that the view was a happy the kitchen and refuse area, with a tiny sliver of sea visible to one side! Amenities basic but it was clean and housekeeping was efficient. The good part though is the location! Right on the sea front in the busier part of town but away from the noise and bustle! Big Island is really awesome and the hotel complex is well placed to reflect this. Convenient location to explore the rest of the island by car but plenty of shops and restaurants and the amazing night life all within 2 minutes walk! For all the good things about Hawaii I’ll put up with an average room! Edit: August 15. So the Kona Resort team replied to my original post, and in fairness to them it was not their fault that we were in this particular tower. Our stay was booked via Diamond Resorts and I gather the rooms in this building are reserved for Diamond Resort members. If you have had dealings with Diamond Resorts it'll come as no surprise that we did not get the room we expected. If you have not had dealings with Diamond Resorts then avoid at all costs if you happen to come across them.

Review:   Beautiful place. Great bar. We saw other guests putting towels on the balconies to dry so we did it too. We got a notice on our door. But we continued to see balconies with towels and clothing hanging. The rooms are very dated but clean.
