Overview
Originally built as the Roberts' family home while carrying out conservation work in the Masai Mara, Richard's Camp is a small and exclusive tented camp. Closed in April, May & November.
At Richard's Camp guests have the opportunity to experience the real Africa; days of heart-stopping game viewing, evenings enjoying cocktails by a cozy campfire and delicious three-course meals under an awe inspiring canopy of stars.
Richard's Camp is owned and operated by Richard Roberts and Liz Fusco. Their son Willoughby was born in 2006 and is growing up in the Mara. Richard was raised in the Masai Mara from the age of 3, and his parents, Willy and Sue were instrumental in bringing together the Masai communities that form the wildlife conservation association that exists in this area today. Richard's camp's first rate Masai and Samburu guides have an abundant and intimate knowledge of the Masai Mara, it's wildlife and it's people. The entire warm and welcoming staff at Richard's Camp ensure guests a very special stay.
Richard's Camp is situated in a conservation area North West of The Masai Mara Game Reserve. With riverine forest and short grass plains, this area is renowned for the most exceptional big game viewing worldwide. The camp is located approximately 180 kms West of Nairobi. There is a small airfield adjacent to the camp for private charters. Within 20 minutes drive from the camp is the airstrip for scheduled airline services, which run twice daily from Nairobi.
A traditional tented camp in true African safari style with modern amenities. Each individually decorated tent has either twin or double beds with extra beds available for families. Our solar system provides clean, silent power and ensures 24-hour light to all the tents. All of our 6 large and spacious custom designed tents feature an en suite flush loo and heated shower. Rarely has sleeping under canvas been made so comfortable.
As the weather almost always permits, we eat all our meals outside under Kenyan skies, but for those rare rainy or chilly evenings, we dine inside, adjacent to our beautiful and cozy sitting room with it's roaring fire. Enjoy flopping on the sofa to read or just relax. At the end of the day, guests can indulge in an open-air Victorian bath tucked away in the forest, surrounded by flickering candles and the sounds of the bush.
Your day is designed to be as exciting or relaxing as you wish. There is a variety of activities from which to choose - escorted bush walks, day and night game drives, sundowners, full days out with delicious picnic lunches into the very heart of the Mara, bush dinners down by the hippo pools, visiting the rhinos, and cultural visits to Masai villages - all tailor made to ensure a rewarding safari of a lifetime. Balloon safaris, scenic flights over the Masai Mara, and day trips to Lake Victoria can also be arranged at an extra cost.
