Overview
Take the role of landowner for a day and participate in multiple activities.
The fantasy of the gaucho in South American countries is ever present and it stems from traditions that date back to the colonial times. The ranch, or estancia, has perpetuated that romantic feeling and it is still possible to create the experience on a trail ride across the pampas to the beach.
Your adventure will begin with a 30-minute ride to Rio de La Plata, where your 'estancia' is located. This property was built in the 40s by a very traditional Uruguayan family. It was sold some years ago and the new owners converted it to a country hotel. It sits amidst a forest of trees and gardens and has an unobstructed view of the sea. This huge piece of land of almost 1000 acres is yours for the day.
Once you arrive you can pretend to be the landowners with every part of the facility available to you. First, a lovely horseback ride along the beach of Montevideo and all that surrounds it. Privately or in small groups no larger than 5 people at a time, you will enjoy the company of the Criollo horses on your guided ride. Today, the Criollo horse is used mainly as a working horse, but it is also considered a pleasure and trail horse which contributed a great deal to the Argentine polo pony They are also excellent rodeo and endurance horses. Your ride will be about one hour in length.
The staff will plan on serving your lunch after your ride. If you wish to delay it, please let them know upon your arrival. It is a traditional 3-course lunch where dining is an art and should be done leisurely. Enjoy a cup of coffee, grown in the surrounding South American countries as Uruguay's climate is too cold. If you wish to enjoy a glass of wine, please do, knowing that will be an additional cost.
Other facilities such as the swimming pool, the restaurant, and the adjoining beaches nearby are yours. If you wish to play tennis, the courts are ready for you. A fitness center is available but we suggest you stay outside to enjoy the temperate air.
You can go cycling or hiking - the staff will help with whatever you desire.
At La Baguala it seems like you have been transported to a distant rural get-away by the coast, but actually you are a half hour away from Montevideo. As the sun moves into the west - and after a wonderful day in the countryside of Montevideo, we will bring you back to wherever you started your journey.
- Please dress comfortably for a horseback ride with pants and closed shoes. If you intend to participate in any other activity offered, please bring appropriate clothing and equipment.
