Start at the very beginning and hear about the Louve's transformation over 5 centuries from a medieval fortress to the magnificent repository of so much of the world's great art that it is today.
The Classical Antiquities wing is your first fascinating stop. Covering the art of Greece, Italy, and the whole Mediterranean region, the works seen here encompass the period from the 4th millennium BC to the 6th century AD. You'll view magnificent Greek and Roman sculptures and a stunning collection of Egyptian artifacts.
Moving on, your guide will introduce you to the Denon Wing, housing the grand galleries of Italian painting. Prepare to be awed by some of the greatest works of art in the western world, including masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Veronese.
An introduction to the French Masters is next on your tour. Discover the late 18th- and early 19th-century rival art movements of Neoclassicism, led by Jacques-Louis David, and Romanticism, spearheaded by Théodore Gericault and Eugène Delacroix.
Last, but most assuredly not least, you'll visit one of the most beloved paintings in the world, the Mona Lisa. Hear the stories behind her enigmatic smile which has captured the imagination of art-lovers for more than 4 centuries.
