This wonderful tour begins with a visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. An architectural masterpiece covering 416,000 square meters and accommodating up to 20,000 worshippers, the Mosque took 6 years to build. Its main chandelier is made of pure Swarovski crystals and the carpet adorning the large prayer hall, woven by expert craftsmen, is made out of pure Persian silk. The Mosque's exterior is constructed with quality Rajasthani Sandstone and the main halls, as well as the smaller prayer rooms, are adorned with the finest Italian Marble. The Mosque is surrounded by 5 minarets, each of which symbolizes the holy five vows taken by every devout Muslim to reinforce his faith in the almighty.
Your knowledgeable local guide will explain life in the city as you head to Mutrah to see fishermen at work before visiting the fish market. The market's beautiful, unique canopy is constructed of curved aluminum fins, mirroring the motion of the sea. Modest dress is required when visiting the mosque. All guests must wear long pants or long dresses (no shorts). Women will need a shawl to cover their heads.
