Private: Waipio Valley ImmersionExplore > United States > Big Island of Hawaii > Private: Waipio Valley ImmersionOverviewHold onto your hat! It's an exciting 4 x 4 adventure deep into the rarely visited Waipio Valley. Seldom visited due to its rugged terrain, the Waipio Valley is a place of serenity. Surrounded by cliffs up to 2,000 feet with dramatic tropical scenery, cascading waterfalls, and a fascinating history, you too will understand why the Waipio Valley is a sacred place for Hawaiians. A pick up at the cruise ship pier begins this private tour which showcases truly spectacular sights on the Island of Hawaii. En route to the Waipio Valley, you will pass through the town of Waimea and Parker Ranch. At more than 250,000 acres, Parker Ranch is the largest cattle ranch in the state of Hawaii and one of the largest in the U.S. It's time for adventure as you switch to a 4 Wheel Drive vehicle to descend into and best navigate the rugged topography of the incredible Waipio Valley. Known as the "Valley of the Kings", the Waipio Valley was the boyhood home of King Kamehameha I and the center of politics and religion in earlier times. Your knowledgeable guide will recount tales of the history and legends of this unique and beautiful place. Crossing shallow streams, inching down steep roads and driving past taro fields, the true beauty of this place will begin to reveal itself. The landscape is an explosion of green, thanks to the more than 250 inches of rain the Waipio Valley receives each year. Gaze in awe at the cascading waters of the Big Island's tallest waterfall, Hi'ilawe Falls, the rugged sea cliffs and black sand beaches. After returning from the valley, you'll enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch while seeing it from a new perspective at the Waipio Valley Lookout. If time permits, a stop will be made at the beach at Koloko Honokohau National Historic Park to view Green Sea Turtles. Known as "Honu", the Green Sea Turtle holds a special place in the hearts of Hawaiians, symbolizing luck, endurance, and long life. - Rain jacket will be provided. - Snacks, beverages and lunch are included in the cost of the tour. - This 4 x 4 tour is not recommended for pregnant women or those with back or neck problems.
