Private: Lord Of The Rings Filming Sites Tour At Mount SundayExplore > New Zealand > Lyttelton > Private: Lord Of The Rings Filming Sites Tour At Mount Sunday
OverviewBecause the Swiss Alps are overrated. This tour is a must for Lord Of The Rings followers! While no evidence of the film set remains, the jaw dropping setting will leave you speechless. After a pick up from the cruise pier we are headed up the harbor side road, around the many scenic Volcanic Peninsula bays, including the spectacular elevated views of the long extinct Volcanic Crater, The Canterbury Plains, and Christchurch City. The Canterbury Plains area is home to high production rural farmland that is heavily utilized with dairy farming, as well as grain and seed cropping. From there we leave the flat plains area and travel into a spectacular and picturesque river gorge located at the base of the Southern Alps mountain range. Mt. Sunday was the location for the set for the Edoras of the Lord of The Rings. While no evidence remains of the film set that took nine months to construct, as on completion of the filming the set was required to be fully deconstructed and the land area returned to its pre-filming state. Our visit into the area provide New Zealand visitors, Lord of The Rings fans, an opportunity to see the entire area up close and to see why Peter Jackson decided the area so ideally portrayed Tolkien’s Edoras. On the return to port, you will drive through Christchurch city for an introduction to the commercial city center and residential neighborhoods. - A stop for lunch is built into your itinerary and your preferences can be discussed with your guide on the day of the tour. The cost of lunch is not included in the price. - An easy walk of about one hour is required to get up close to the Mount Sunday filming locations. - Groups larger than 6 will be in two vehicles. - Due to national park usage and restoration constraints there is no signs remaining of the huge Lord of the Rings movie set that was constructed at Mt. Sunday, only the landscape. Days offered: 7 days a week Departures:
