OverviewA wheeled dog sled ride with time to pet the PUPPIES!! Take a step back in time as we travel through the historic AJ Mine site, once the largest gold producing mine in the world, en route to the musher's camp. See where and how sled dogs are trained for the Iditarod and other races and visit those adorable sled-dogs-in training, the Husky puppies. This super fun, family-friendly interactive tour takes you along the beautiful Gastineau Channel, past the historic AJ mine where you'll see remnants of former mining days, to the remote Sheep Creek Valley. Here you'll visit one of the summer training grounds for Alaska's state sport, dog sledding. With an actual dog musher to greet you, you'll hear about the process of training the more than 120 sled dogs who live here and find out what it takes to turn these Huskies into world-class canine athletes. Visit a replica of a 19th-century Iditarod Outpost to get a feel for what it was like for the original Iditarod mushers, who along with their dogs carried supplies to remote outposts in the days of Alaska’s early settlements. Now it's time to see the sled dogs in action as you climb aboard the wheeled carts used for summer training. You'll hear the Huskies barking with excitement as they prepare to pull you on the 1.5-mile trail through Alaska's incredible landscape. For many, the most highly anticipated part of the tour is meeting those irresistible, adorable Husky puppies. You're welcome to hold and pet these wiggly little balls of fur, as the socialization is considered an important part of their training (but we all know, it's really about the fun). - Professional photos are available for purchase, however, you are welcome to bring your own camera. - Please choose morning or afternoon departure. Your exact tour time will be determined by your ship's schedule in port and will be provided on your voucher. - Tour length includes transfer time. - This tour is available from May - September.
