Overview
Explore one of the oldest European settlements in the Pacific coast!
Panama City is both a buzzing capital city and a gateway to tropical paradise. At its heart, you have cultures joining together from the East and the West.. The result is a dynamic and inspiring approach to life which sets it apart from surrounding cities.
This half-day historical tour will not disappoint! You’ll begin your day with a short ride to the ruins of Panama Viejo, or the old city, which is home to archaeological remains of the original settlement including Pre-Columbian aboriginal artifacts. This area is also a UNESCO protected heritage site.
Your guide will tell you stories and interesting facts about the first settlements of the area while you explore the stone architecture of public and religious buildings.
Next, venture on to Casco Antiguo. After a pirate attack in 1673, Panama City was moved west to a small peninsula. Closer to fresh water and more securely protected, this area is now known at the Historic District of Panama. Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Casco Antiguo boasts breathtaking churches, the Presidential Palace, House of the Municipality, the National Theatre and an array of other government buildings.
End your day with a visit to the Interoceanic Canal Museum. Housed in the original headquarters of the French canal building effort, you’ll get a mesmerizing look into the construction of the Panama Canal. Enjoy a leisurely and stress-free ride back to your hotel after your tour.
