Overview
A day of ancient wonder!
After a pick up in Larnaca, we will drive to Choirokoitia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the best preserved prehistoric settlements in the Eastern Mediterranean. The settlement dates back to the Neolithic age and preserves some of the earliest evidence of organized society.
Continue to the picturesque village of Lefkara. The village has a rich history in producing exquisite handicrafts such as the world renowned ‘Lefkaritika’ which are items created by a traditional lace, and filigree silverware. According to tradition, Leonardo da Vinci visited the village and bought an altar cloth, which he donated to the Milan cathedral. Wander around its narrow streets and explore its pleasant architecture.
In the afternoon we will drive in the direction of Larnaca, first stopping at the village of Kiti. The village of Kiti contains the Angeloktisti Church, one of the best examples of Byzantine art. There you can see a mosaic dating back to the 6th century of the Virgin Mary and Child between two archangels.
In Larnaca visit the 9th century St. Lazarus Church, which was erected over the tomb of St. Lazarus. Inside the church you will see the iconostasis, which provides an excellent example of baroque woodcarving.
Our last stop will be at the Palm Tree Promenade in Larnaca. The towering palms are truly a beautiful site!
