Create Your Own Batik - Group TripExplore > Saint Kitts and Nevis > Saint Kitts > Create Your Own Batik - Group TripOverviewCreate your own personal souvenir to remember your visit to St. Kitts. Batik is an Indonesian method using wax to resist dye to create beautiful designs on fabric. Once the dying process is complete, the wax is removed, revealing the design. You could think of it as "wax on, wax off"! All smiles and happiness upon your arrival, you will be scooped up and shown the main city of Basseterre after boarding your transportation. Moving along to the outer road, your driver will have just a little time to fill you in on some history before you turn uphill for a beautiful scenic view. You have arrived at historic Romney Manor, once a sugar cane plantation. Romney Manor was owned by Sam Jefferson II, a great-great-great-grandfather of Thomas Jefferson. You have also arrived at Caribelle Batik, which is both a shop and a part of St. Kitts culture. Batik is created using an ancient Indonesian method that uses wax to resist dye on parts of the fabric and then designs (often consisting of lines and dots) are applied by using a canting tool or stamp. Caribelle Batik is famous for its unique batik designs that combine flourishing strokes and elements of nature. You’ll learn about the methods used to create batik from artisans demonstrating the technique and creating products onsite. Then it's your turn to try your hand at making your very own work of art. There will be artists and dyers on hand to help you. Since there is not enough time to complete the entire process, you will receive your small, unfinished batik, wrapped in cellophane. Finish drying your creation on board the cruise ship, then, when you get back home, boil it to remove the wax to bring your design to life. There are many gorgeous and distinctive items for sale in Caribelle Batik's shop and whatever you buy here will likely be the best and most unique of any souvenir of your vacation. Even if you decide not to purchase, the memories of these creative folks will remain with you. While you're here, you can also wander through the Botanical Gardens, take in the spectacular view of sister-island Nevis and enjoy a signature rum punch and a piece of rum cake at Romney Manor's rainforest bar. - Rum punch and other beverages and rum cake can be purchased at Romney Manor. - This tour requires a minimum of 20 guests. - This tour is not available on National Holidays. - All guests must sign a waiver prior to taking the tour.
