OverviewThese ancient sights are not to be missed! After a pickup from the cruise ship pier we will depart to the stoic and mysterious Stonehenge. This prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England consists of a ring of standing stones. These stones weigh around 25 tons each, and are about 13 feet high and 7 feet wide. The stones are in the middle of several hundred burial mounds, and were believed to have been constructed between 3000 and 2000 BC. How Stonehenge was constructed is still a mystery - the type of stone used to build the monument is found 20 miles away. A look at this 4000 year old mysterious monument is not to be missed! Next up is a visit to the Salisbury Cathedral in the town of Salisbury, England. This beautiful Anglican Cathedral is constructed in the Early Gothic style and was built during the 1200's. While you'll find numerous statues on the outside, the interior is known for its simplistic beauty. The Cathedral boasts the tallest spire in Britain and one of the oldest clocks in the world, dating from the 1300's. The octagonal-shaped charter house contains the best of the surviving 4 original copies of the Magna Carta. This important historical document provided a guarantee of rights and privileges to all people and established the principle that everyone, including the king, was subject to the law. After Salisbury Cathedral, you will be returned to Portland Harbour. - The entrance fee for Stonehenge is included in the price of this tour. - The entrance fee for the Salisbury Cathedral is included in the price of this tour. - Please note your tour is with an English speaking driver who will not be able to enter sites with you. If you choose to purchase the licensed guide for 4 hours, the guide will meet you at Stonehenge and end at Salisbury.
