Overview
Experience three gorgeous, quaint towns of the Istrian Coast.
During this excursion, three villages will be introduced to you, each with its own cultural and historic attractions.
Our first visit is to the village of Hum, laying its claim as the smallest town in the world. Located in the heart of Istria, Hum claims to have only 20 residents, all of whom warmly welcome visitors. Other than its diminutive size, this peaceful fairy tale town has recently become known for producing biska, a spiced brandy made with mistletoe, using a traditional recipe. Of course, we'll taste a sample of this very local specialty.
We proceed to our next destination, Motovun, located high above the Mirna River. Often thought the most attractive and famous of the medieval towns on the peninsula, it holds attractions such as St. Stephen's 17th century parish church, a 13th century Romanesque-Gothic bell tower, and a center square surrounded by history. Both white and black truffles are prominent in this area and so are some of their local wines such as their Muscat of Momjan and Malvasia. Expect to taste truffles, local olive oil and wine among other products on your tour through Motovun.
The town of Labin, our next stop, is a place like no other. The "City of Artists" is located on a 320 meter high hill, with its old town on the top of the hill and its more modern counterpart down below. Old Labin is home to the best preserved acropolis in Istria. The town is dotted with art galleries, about thirty artists live and work there. We'll explore the rich history and culture of this quaint town before heading back to Rijeka.
