Wet noses, floppy ears and wagging tails await.
It takes a special kind of person to be a dog musher, those stalwart drivers of teams of barking bundles of fur. Hear all about it from a real musher!
Beginning with a pickup at the cruise ship pier, we'll head out of town, along nine miles of pristine Alaska coastline before reaching our destination in Dyea, a true "musher's camp".
During a presentation led by a real musher, you'll learn the techniques, hear the experiences and ask any questions you might have about dog sledding. Not only is it a challenging pursuit, it's also Alaska's official State Sport.
It's time for some hands-on, serious playtime with those adorable puppies as well as the "teenage" dogs. Feel free to roll around with them in the dirt! Socializing the dogs is a key component of their future success, so consider yourself a part of the team.
Take a seat around a crackling fire and learn the finer points of making that campfire favorite, the S'more. Let you expert guide show you the technique for toasting the graham cracker, melting the chocolate and roasting (not burning) the perfect marshmallow. As the flavors blend together, this warm, crunchy, gooey treat becomes the ultimate outdoor indulgence.
We'll give you some time to explore this beautiful property on a self-guided nature hike, browse the gift shop or enjoy a beverage in the saloon before we return to downtown Skagway.
- Participants must be able to navigate approximately 12 steps and have the ability to walk 100 yards, either on their own or with the assistance of another traveler in their party.
