Tour Award Winning Public Housing In SingaporeExplore > Singapore > Tour Award Winning Public Housing In SingaporeOverviewFascinating subject matter and applicable to everyone's interests. Singapore was once known to have the worst slums in the world. Today the public housing program is a source of national pride. Singapore's Housing and Development Board (HDB) has now received 3 UN awards over the last 25 years and over 80% of Singapore's resident population has called HDB flats home. On this tour you will really be immersed in the culture of the country as you learn the hows and whys of public housing policies that have proven successful. On the first part of the tour you will find yourself with your outstanding guide in Toa Payoh, one of the first public housing projects in the country. Here you will visit the Hub of Public Housing and see the mock up of various apartments. As you view them, you will hear why they are considered more like a 'marriage proposition' than a lease agreement. As one of Singapore’s oldest housing estates, Toa Payoh was the first to benefit from the Estate Renewal Strategy – an integrated and systematic approach to rejuvenate older HDB towns, making them more comparable with newer estates. The estate renewal efforts revitalized Toa Payoh, and the pioneer HDB town is a vibrant place today. On the second part of this tour you will visit the tallest public housing in Singapore - and in the world! It is called Pinnacle@Duxton and this award-winning development features the world's two longest sky gardens. One of the highlights of this tour is to see the inside of a 4-room HDB flat within the development. You will also visit the sky bridge on the 50th floor where you will be a wonderful view of the central part of Singapore. Though the subject matter of this tour may sound more like a thesis, in today's modern world, you will see how Singapore has handled a problem that every country, and every major city is faced with. A view into these solutions also tells you much about the creativity and the sensitivity that the country of Singapore has exhibited in its problem-solving. - Please dress comfortably. - Please note that while transportation is included, this tour does include a significant amount of walking.
