Crafts And Birds In The Heartland Of SingaporeExplore > Singapore > Crafts And Birds In The Heartland Of SingaporeOverviewThis look into the unique culture of Singapore is unforgettable and mind-blowing. We search for these secret scenes that tell a history, often disappearing. It is rare for a local to understand our request and see that we seek the beauty of their often diminishing culture. The culture of hand-made crafts is fascinating, but in most locations, as generations die out, it is losing its audience as well as the talented people that have mastered these special products. Our expert and very personable guide will direct you to an area of the city where the last remaining businesses still fashion their wares by hand. This scene is becoming a rarity in Singapore and around the world. Along with the special crafts you will witness an interesting hobby call Bird Singing, where you will find yourself serenaded by these special Song Birds. The excursion is comprised of several stops, each of which will give you a window into the past life here. The first is right in the local heartlands where one of the largest Bird Singing corners is located. In this spot, birds actually get to practice their vocal chords and give you a chance to chat with the 'uncles', the owners who love their birds. Imagine the photographs and the stories you can return home with from just this one stop! If you have ever watched Lion Dances and noticed the incredible colorful Lion Heads? One of the last remaining craftsmen who still makes these Lion Heads out of his home is one of your visits. It will not be long before these will no longer be created and on your visit you can order one of these beautifully crafted heads, though no pressure to do so. This is more about the exposure of a dwindling art. Every think about incense sticks and how they are made, particularly those giant ones at the Chinese temples? Find out more about their history and creation right from the horse's mouth. If you wish, you can even try your hand and use the raw materials to fashion your own scented stick. Finally you will be introduced to the 'master' craftsman who makes some of the most gorgeous lanterns by hand. This master artist provides the lanterns for numerous Chinese temples and Clan associations. These lanterns are all constructed of paper and the 'factory' you visit has an array of paper offerings that are commonly sold as donations at temples all over the world. These offerings are used as burnt for the Gods, Ancestors, and Ghosts, for good fortune and good health. No doubt you will want to select some pieces as perfect souvenirs to take home. At the least, you will bring back an incredible understanding of the culture and talent of the Singaporeans. - Tokens of appreciation for the businesses visited should be considered around $80 SGD. - Please dress comfortably. - Lunch and beverages are not included. - This tour has a maximum of 15 people per group as there are space contraints in these small homes. - This tour is not available in July and August. Days offered: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday Departures:
