Private Winery And Culinary Tour From CagliariExplore > Italy > Sardinia > Private Winery And Culinary Tour From CagliariOverviewEnjoy the finest of wines surrounded by the vineyards from whence they came. Set on the Gulf of Sardinia between the sea and coastal wetlands you'll find Cagliari, the capitol of the Italian island of Sardinia. We'll venture outside the city to visit two of the area's most cherished wineries and discover the process that is required to elevate the humble grape to divine wine. Your day begins with a pickup right at the cruise ship pier. We'll take a panoramic drive and make a photo stop at the beautiful Monte Urpino, an urban park located high on a hill for dramatic views of Cagliari below. Before long, we'll arrive at the first winery, Argiolas Vineyards. The first grapes on this family-owned vineyard were planted in 1906 by Antonio, the patriarch. Today, his grandchildren continue the traditions of viniculture combined with eco-friendly methods to produce their high quality wines. We'll stroll the gently rolling hills of the vineyards and olive groves on this lovely property. Next we'll board a mini-bus to discover both experimental and traditional vines of the island and visit the ancient Romanesque church of St. Maria de Sibiola. Back at the winery, it's the moment you've been waiting for as we taste a delightful aperitif and two of Argiolas Winery's best, accompanied by some local foods for nibbling. We move on to the countryside of Settimo San Pietro, to Ferruccion Deiana Winery. This winery, too is family owned, though not as old as Argiolas. But what the owner lacks in years he makes up for in passion, education and technical skills. You'll learn about the micro-climate of the area and how the hills and valleys provide perfect conditions for growing grapes. Tastings of four of their exquisite wines will be provided, along with a traditional lunch showcasing local products such as cold cuts, cheeses, bread, seasonal vegetables, olives and Sardinian sweets, accompanied by a complementary passito wine. Before returning you to your ship, your knowledgeable local guide will show you the highlights of Cagliari. The Old District contains the most important remnants of the Middle Ages including the Castello, a walled quarter situated high above the town and Torre dell' Elefante, a tower built in 1307 to defend the city against the Arogonese. You'll see the elegant palazzi, graceful Cagliari Cathedral, other ancient churches and visit Poetto Beach, Cagliari's main beach. All in all, a wonderful day in Cagliari! - Cost includes the tastings at both Argiolas & Ferruccio Deiana and lunch. - The price of this tour does not include gratuity, entrance fees, or any other extras not mentioned. - Since this is a private tour, the departure time can be changed to suit your needs.
