Overview
A full day of foamy fun.
We begin our tour with an interesting one hour bus tour of the city of Saint John. Your informative local guide will fill you in on the history of St. John as we pass by some of the city's landmarks, including Market Square, the Original Red Rose Tea Building, Fort Howe, the Trinity Heritage Area, Uptown St. John, the Imperial Theater, King's Square and the Loyalist Burial Grounds.
There is a unique phenomenon that occurs in St. John at the collision of the Bay of Fundy (home to the world's highest tides) and the St. John River. At low tide, the river empties into the bay, causing turbulent, foamy whirlpools and rapids. This interesting wonder of nature provides the opportunity to walk up to 40' across the ocean floor and to view caves, normally hidden under water. When the tide begins to rise, the flow of the river is reversed, again forming rapids which peak at high tide.
As we head back toward town, the rest of the excursion is on foot, where we'll visit the City Market, the oldest farmers market in Canada. Take some time to browse their offerings, everything from coffee and bakery to jewelry and photography.
The second foamy experience of the day is just ahead as we explore St. John's burgeoning craft beer scene. In recent years, the number of breweries and styles has exploded, making this the perfect place to sample beers unique to the Maritimes.
We'll see the frothy magic happen as we tour a brewery and learn about the methods used to produce the fine brews we're about to taste. With 3-five ounce samples at each of the three craft breweries on the agenda for today, you're sure to find your favorite.
A wonderful accompaniment to a frosty glass of beer is a delicious lunch. Although the cost of lunch is not included in the price of the tour, you will find a delightful selection at one of the breweries. The perfect way to end the tour (and to sober up!).
