Overview
Discover the delicious diversity of London's East End.
For many years, London's East End was known more for its working-class Cockney residents and poverty. But the expansion of rail transportation into the area has brought about a renaissance, bringing in young, creative people while retaining the eclectic culture of the East End's neighborhoods.
As you delve into the area's culinary specialties, your knowledgeable guide will delve into the culture of this fascinating area. You'll hear remarkable stories about the history, the residents and how the foods reflect this melting pot that is the East End. As we move through the tour, we'll meet the shop owners, chefs and bakers whose passion for their craft enriches and strengthens this area of London.
A steady stream of Jewish immigration in the 1890's accounts for the presence of an iconic bagel shop where you'll enjoy a traditionally made bagel, topped with salted beef and slathered with hot mustard. Yum!
The East End offers its best version of that quintessential English staple, Fish and Chips, wrapped in (of course) newspaper. Along with that, we'll drop into an authentic English pub to soak up the ambiance and hoist a pint.
More recently introduced to the area, a sampling of curries awaits along the "Curry Mile" for a taste of India and Pakistan.
Tasting traditional English pudding is a must and ours comes from an award-winning restaurant. Delightful!
You might not associate London with a cheese culture, but make no mistake, it's out there. With a wide variety of both English and European cheeses, you eyes will be opened to the high quality products available at this local cheese shop.
As the tour winds down, we head to one of the hippest restaurants in London for a taste of a decadent salted caramel tart. The perfect ending to a fantastic tour.
