Dunrobin Castle And Glenmorangie DistilleryExplore > United Kingdom > Scotland > Dunrobin Castle And Glenmorangie DistilleryOverviewLive the life of the Earls and Dukes of Sutherland. Inhabited since the early 1300's, the largest house in the Northern Highlands was created by the Earls of Sutherland and is located perfectly above walled gardens overlooking the grounds. Your childhood dreams of being a princess might be resurrected as the exploration of the Dunrobin castle will transport you to a fantasy world complete with 187 rooms - so many that you just might be tempted to hide in one until everyone leaves. As you traverse the depths of history, you'll become familiar with the castle's expansive design that was constantly adapted by each ruler, with an early focus on defense that transitions into a later importance on aesthetics. With the gardens as stunning as the castle itself, make sure you take some time to explore the formal layout inspired by Versailles with little changes to the landscape since 1850. A daily Falconry display will provide a unique experience as you will have the chance to witness the "sport of Kings." Each of these birds of prey have their own personality and are some of the best trained hawks and eagles in the world. The highlight of the show will be the Peregrine falcon, one of the fastest creatures on earth. From castle royalty to whisky royalty you will head over to the Glenmorangie distillery which has been producing whisky legally since 1843 and illegally since the early 1700's. Unique to the rest of Scotland, the water supply for this distillery is rich in minerals that accent the flavors differently than any whisky producer in the country. With a special water supply and the tallest stills in Scotland, the Glenmorangie distillery claims they only allow the best spirits to pass through their casks.
