Enchanted Terraces And Volcanic Lava Pools 4 X 4 TourExplore > Portugal > Funchal > Enchanted Terraces And Volcanic Lava Pools 4 X 4 TourOverviewThe best way to explore this rugged island is in these fun, colorful 4 x 4 vehicles. An adventurous, informative and enjoyable way to see the unforgettable, distinctive island of Madeira. From Funchal, with your local, informative guide at the wheel, we point our jeeps to the west and north and set off to explore this fascinating part of Madeira Island. Heading up to the 4,000' high mountains in Serra d' Agua, the views provided by the distinctive topography of this area are dramatic and splendid, with terraces, deep valleys and small villages below. Next stop is Ginjas, where your guide will take you for a short walk through the dense forest to show and explain the vegetation unique to this area. With an abundance of waterfalls and streams, many exotic plants thrive here. Your guide will tell you about levadas, or irrigation canals common in this area, providing valuable water to the drier agricultural areas in the valley. We'll make our way to Paul da Serra, the only flat area on the entire island. On a clear day, this plateau provides views of both the north and south coasts of the island of Madeira. Moving on to Fanal, prepare yourself to be dazzled by the magical Laurissilva Forest, home to beautiful Laurel trees, some more than 500 years old. From here we will visit Porto Moniz and Seixal to see the inviting volcanic lava pools, filled with clean, clear sea water. If I were you, I would take advantage of this opportunity to go for a swim or just wade in and enjoy the cool, refreshing water. By now, you'll be getting hungry and we will stop at a lovely restaurant in the village of Seixal for lunch. Before heading back to the pier, we will pass by some beautiful waterfalls in Sao Vicente and see the very unique chapel built into a volcanic basalt rock. Now there's something you don't see everyday! - Wear comfortable clothes and shoes and bring a light jacket. - Bring your swimsuit and a towel if you would like to swim in the volcanic lava pools. - Don't forget your camera - Car seats will be provided for your child, if necessary. - The cost of lunch is 14 Euros and is not included in the price of the tour. - This tour is not recommended for those with back or neck problems or for pregnant women. - This tour is not available on December 25th Days offered: 7 days a week Departures:
