Overview
Explore North Zealand and Frederiksborg Castle. We'll also see 2 other castles!
"A man's home is his castle." (American Proverb).
We'll see gorgeous homes that really are castles on this lovely full day trip!
Get to know Copenhagen- the "City of Cyclists!" But don't worry, we won't exhaust ourselves on a strenuous bike ride! Instead, we'll take a lovely drive through the beautiful forests just north of Copenhagen to Hillerod, about 18 miles outside of the city.
Hillerod is home to the impressive Frederiksborg Castle built in Renaissance style by King Christian IV in 1625. Inside the castle, we'll also enter the national historic museum which has been housed in the castle since 1878, containing the country's most important collection of portraits and historical paintings. We'll also visit the Chapel (served as the beautiful backdrop for the wedding of Prince Joachim and Princess Alexandra in November 1995!) and Knights Hall.
After departing Hillerod, we'll continue through the wealthy suburbs and go along gorgeous Esrum Lake, Denmark's second largest lake. We'll also pass the Royal Family's summer residence, Fredensborg Castle, surrounded by a beautiful park and the home of Crown Prince couple.
We'll stop for lunch at a typical Danish Inn where you can try the traditional Danish smørrebrød, which are little open sandwiches usually served on dark bread with various types of herring, salmon, beef, ham and/or cheese topped with your choice of veggies. "D-licious!" The cost of lunch is not included.
Later in the afternoon, you'll arrive at the world famous Kronborg Castle, known from Shakespeare's "Hamlet" and see a simply magnificent view of the Swedish coastline. You'll walk around the castle courtyard and experience the fascinating history of this wonderful place.
To finish off our day, we'll depart Elsinore and travel along the coast with beautiful old villas, beaches, leisure boats and harbors, also known as the Danish Riviera.
- Lunch is not included. Your driver/guide will make suggestions that appeal to you.
- Entrance to Kronborg and Frederiksborg Castles are included in the tour cost.
