Even for those not interested in physics will want to see CERN, the impressive world-famous research center for particle physics and home to the Large Hadron Collider. A visit to Geneva would not be complete without stopping at St. Pierre Cathedral, the part Romaesque, part Gothic cathedral, best known for John Calvin's inspiring sermons in the 1560's. Construction of the cathedral began in the year 1160 and continued for 150 years, which accounts for the two distinct architectural styles. Geneva lays claim to the world's tallest fountain, Jet d' Eau, stunningly displayed on the shores of Lake Geneva. With the fountain's main plume shooting 140 feet in the air, you won't be able to miss it (nor will you want to!). Visit the Conservatoire et Jardin Botaniques, the city's magnificent garden with over 12,000 different plant species from around the world.
