Google Reviews

About Google Reviews: recently Google has converted their review system to require reviewers to have a proper, identifiable Google+ profile. This is a good thing, as it tends to cut down on bad reviews, both from people unwilling to stand behind their comments and fake positive reviews from the businesses themselves. Old, pre-Google+ reviews are still in the system, and will appear below as written by "A Google User". More info from Google is here.

Review:   I really enjoyed my stay at Villas Playa Samara! the staff really took care of us and went above and beyond making our celebrations special. The food is also amazing. Very flavorful and still a lot of variety for a small resort. The best I've had than at all the larger resorts I've visited in the past. The pool is very nice and the property is well kept. Their are wild horses on the beach which is really cool to see. Sunsets are amazing. Though the villas require some update, it did not negatively impact our stay, especially since we spent most of our times outdoors and walking to town/ enjoying excursions. I would definitely recommend this hotel due to how great the staff's made the stay. My biggest tip is to ask for an upgraded room away from the construction.

Review:   Grounds are beautiful, food is good but don't stay in the condo buildings! They are a little crappy and our hot water wouldn't work, then the air conditioning didn't work. The staff was right on it but it still didn't fix the cheapy feeling of the unit.

Review:   We booked a "Beach Front Villa" only to find they don't actually have any beach front villas. Beach front to me means you step out of your Villa and onto a Beach. This is what it means where I've stayed in the Bahamas, the BVI, and the USVI, but evidently not at the Villas Playa Samara. The picture they show on their website of the Beach Front Villa is the only one remotely close to the beach. I can see some water from our Villa but I have to walk past about 8 villas closer to the beach to actually hit some sand. You get to enjoy whatever else every other Villa is up to along your way, and the lack of privacy really adds to the trailer park vibe of the place. The condo construction going on right outside our bedroom window is a nice touch. Our three year old may not sleep much but at least he can watch the bulldozers. The three included meals are all buffets. The appliances are beat up and rusty and the windows are all dirty. We asked for a refund so we could go someplace else but obviously they refused. We were tempted to eat the $500/night for 4 nights but decided we'd try to make the best of the situation. Reason for 2 stars instead of one is because the pool is lovely as is the beach. Other than that I would urge you dear traveler to go elsewhere for your stay in Samara, unless you have very low expectations.

Review:   If you have a tour company that books you here, have them change it because once you pre-pay for the tour you have no leverage when things go sideways. Costa Rica Monkey Tours dumped us here 4 hours before check-in then made us wait in the lobby without ever saying a word. No apologies, no offers of interim accommodation, nothing. This place is understaffed, poor service (probably because of overworked & underpaid employees), out of date, no chairs on the beach, extremely limited food options as an all-inclusive, cheap hard mattresses, no phones, massive construction next door with power tools starting up before 7:00 am, and best of all, they don’t really care if you’re unhappy or uncomfortable. Just don’t stay here. There are a lot of other places in Costa Rica with nicer facilities who will treat you as the paying guest that you are.
