Overview
This is an in-depth exploration of the most famous locales in New York City.
Now you've seen New York!
The best way to see the sites in Manhattan is on foot and the best way to get around on foot is with a local guide who knows the city inside and out.
Times Square is not actually in the shape of a square. It is more of a bow tie, the perfect attire for the home of New York's world-famous Broadway Theater district. Bursting with the energy of dazzling neon lights, theater marqees, jumbo digital screens, site of the New Years Eve ball drop, shops (and let's not forget the Hello Deli, made famous by David Letterman), Times Square IS New York City. Of all the "must-see" places in the City That Never Sleeps, this is at the top of the list. This colorful area also has a colorful past and your guide will fill you in on the details.
John D. Rockefeller, oil magnate, philanthropist and widely considered to be the world's wealthiest person ever, left an unforgettable legacy to New York...Rockefeller Center. This complex of 19 buildings includes some of Manhattan's most iconic buildings and embodies all that is Manhattan. At the center you will find the fabulous 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Its classic Art Deco architecture is the first hint of the treasures contained within. Possibly the most photographed monumental sculpture in New York, the Prometheus sculpture is just one of many stunningly beautiful works of art contained throughout the building. The winter ice rink, the "Top of the Rock" observation deck, NBC Studios and the Famous Rainbow Room are a few more places you will recognize and want to see with your own eyes.
Fredrick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux understood the enormous significance of their assignment when they designed Central Park. They knew this park would be crucial as a respite for millions of New Yorkers, looking for an escape from the concrete jungle. Miles of walking paths meandering through the urban forest, charming bridges crossing gentle brooks, soothing waterfalls, whimsical sculptures and historical monuments all combine to refresh the soul and renew the spirit. As you stroll this green oasis, a sense of calm comes over you. Special places, such as Strawberry Fields, Tavern on the Green, the vintage carousel and Belvedere Castle will be remembered long after you have left the park.
