OverviewWhat better time to visit a "Winter Wonderland" than in the middle of summer? You might say this place is the epitome of "cool"!! Helsinki is a lovely city by the sea. Rich in maritime history, it works hard to preserve its Finnish culture, delightful architecture (both Finnish and Art Nouveau) and city squares. Yet you can't help but be impressed by its hip, artsy vibe, as evidenced by being chosen as the World Design Capital in 2012. Your guide will show you this compact city at its best, including the White Lutheran Cathedral and the gold-domed Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral reflecting the Russian era in Helsinki's history. The Market Square is a daily stop for locals looking for the freshest fish, fruits, vegetables, and flowers, with an ever-changing assortment reflective of the seasons. See the Finnish National Gallery, National Theater, modern National Opera house and Kiasma, the Museum of Modern Art representing Helsinki's cultural life. World famous Finlandia Hall, designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto overlooks Töölö Bay and the Sibelius monument honors the well known Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. After your Helsinki Highlights tour, and just a short 20-minute drive from the city, you'll be whisked away to a true Winter Wonderland. Upon arrival, you will be supplied with thermal clothing, everything you'll need to stay warm and toasty...overalls, socks, and boots. Open the door and find yourself transported to "instant winter". All the joys of snow without the shoveling! No matter the weather outside, in here it's always 41 degrees, no wind chill, no snowstorms, no hassles, just fun! Explore the igloos of the snow hotel, have a seat at the bar, covered with reindeer hides to keep down the chill, throw back an ice-cold shot from an ice glass, delight in the colorful, artistically lit snow and ice decorations. Enjoy tobogganing, sledding and tandem skiing (a true test of cooperation with your fellow-skier) and meet friendly, tail-wagging huskies, waiting to take you for a ride. After this unique experience, as your driver returns you to the cruise pier, you will be remembering the wonderful day you just spent in Helsinki. - Dress comfortably and wear your favorite walking shoes. - The entrance to Winter Wonderland is included in the tour cost.
