A half day of touring, including 2 hours walking.
This comprehensive highlights tour will introduce you to the best of Kristiansand, a charming seaside city and the gateway to the many villages spanning Norway's southernmost coast. We'll introduce you to the history of Kristiansand, and it's present day place as a lively cultural hot spot.
Our first stop is to the largest open air museum in Norway - the Vest Agder Cultural Heritage Museum. Continuing on we will head out of the city to the surrounding area where we will first visit the village of Soegne. Here you will see the Old Church of Soegne, dating back to 1640. Next we will visit Hoellen where you will stroll the town's oldest streets, lined with picturesque wooden houses on either side.
Returning to Kristiansand enjoy a guided visit at the cathedral "Kristiansand Domkirke". The cathedral is beautiful from the outside, and the inside visit is fascinating. Accompanied by your guide, our day will end with a walking tour through the city. We will visit the fruit and vegetable market "Torvet", as well as a local fish market. You may choose to purchase everything from flowers to home made jams. You can't buy this stuff back home! You will also pass the Christiansholm Fortress, giving way to panoramic views of the marina. On the way back to the cruise ship pier you will see the new concert house, "Kilden", an achievement in modern architecture and cherished by the locals for the culture it brings to the city.
