Overview
Discover the Baroque, Neoclassical, Eclectic and Art Nouveau buildings of Budapest!
Divided by the Danube River, Budapest is a merge of settlements, Buda and Pest. Today the city is one, and you can cross the Danube on one of its nine bridges. This metropolitan hub provides a center for administration, industry, trade, education, and most interesting to travelers, art and culture. On this half day sightseeing tour we will unearth the rich history that breathes here.
With a licensed guide, our aim is to uncover the hidden details that provide a window to the past. If you want to discover the riches of the interiors of the finest buildings in Budapest then come with us to visit the interiors of the Parliament, one of the largest Parliamentary buildings in the world! This architectural feat provides an example of Neo-Gothic architecture, with both Renaissance and Baroque influence. At the time of its construction, an open tender was held for the design of the building. However both runner up designs were built across the street. One is the Museum of Ethnography and the other is the Ministry of Agriculture.
Next up is the Dohany Synagogue, the largest in Europe. If you wish, we will also visit the Jewish Museum in the adjacent building. An important stop is the Jewish Heroes' Mausoleum and Temple, which commemorates the thousands of Jewish martyrs who lost their lives to the Second World War. Your guide will also bring you to the Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Garden, and the Tree of Life Holocaust Memorial. This monument was created by a highly regarded Hungarian sculptor, Imre Varga.
Finally we will visit the largest indoor market in Budapest, the Central Market Hall. Perhaps you will enjoy a bite to eat as there is a wide selection of sausages, meats, cheeses, fruits, vegetables, as well as several food stands and handicrafts. We recommend purchasing Hungarian Paprika and Tokaji to bring back home! Our final stop is Liberty Square where you will see the Stock Exchange Palace, the US Embassy, and the last remaining Soviet Memorial in Budapest.
