Overview
This full day immersion will introduce you to 'Buda' and 'Pest'!
Budapest is one of the most culturally rich cities in Europe. A blend of East meets West, literally divided by the Danube River, Buda on the West bank and Pest on the East, Budapest has a fascinating history! Referred to as the "Pearl of the Danube", Buda is the most ancient and residential area, while Pest has evolved as a center for business and administration.
Budapest, "the Pearl of the Danube", stretches along both banks of the river. Buda is the most ancient, residential and hilly, while Pest is known for business and shops. Nine bridges connect 'Budapest' and this panoramic experience will begin with a drive across the 19th Century Chain Bridge, to the historic Castle District in Buda. This is perhaps the most historic district of the city, with origins dating the 13th century. Together we will take a stroll and pass many famous buildings and examples of Gothic architecture. A point of interest is the palace where Ludwig van Beethoven resided for six years.
Returning to Pest we will drive Andrassy boulevard, which is lined with elegant and notable buildings, including the State Opera House, the old Music Academy, mansions and villas. We are headed to the Heroes' Square, located at the end of the Boulevard. Located on either side of the square you will find the Art Gallery and the Museum of Fine Arts. Most notable is the rich collection of Spanish masters, housed at the Museum of Fine Arts, and second only to the collection found inside the Prado in Madrid.
Up next is the Jewish Quarter where you will see the Dohany Synagogue, one of the largest in the world. We will also visit the interior of the Parliament building, built to commemorate the 1000 year anniversary of Hungarian's land taking. This architectural feat will leave you speechless.
