OverviewCairo will always be mystical even after your visit. Of any place I have ever visited, Cairo has made the biggest impact. It can't be described. It has to be experienced! Introducing.... one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World! Set out on this emotionally charged, amazing, life-changing opportunity to see the Great Pyramids of Egypt! It is one of those things that belongs on your "must-see in my lifetime" list! But if you arrive directly at the foot of the pyramids, you will find only disappointment as you will be surrounded by hundreds of vendors. Instead, we bring you to a special place to get an overview of the 3 pyramids and the sphinx in the background. So you will begin your day by visiting the Pyramids and Sphinx, Egypt's most famous monuments but our way. The Great Pyramids are among the largest constructions ever built by man, and it is believed that they were constructed as burial monuments for Egyptian Royalty. The largest, the Great Pyramid of Cheops, was completed around 2500 BC, and is built of 2,300,000 limestone blocks weighing 2.5 tons each. Also view the Pyramids of Chephren or Mycerinus. If you wish, you can even explore the interior of one of these pyramids. We highly recommend it unless you are claustrophobic. Next, we will visit the Solar Boat Museum, whose main attraction is an ancient Egyptian cedar wood boat dating back 4,500 years. This stop is often not included in most tours but we feel it speaks to the brilliance of the Egyptians. We will then drive into Old Cairo to explore the City’s cultural landmarks that span three millennium of Egyptian history. You will also visit the Sphinx, the large half-human statue that you will find reclining just east of the Pyramid of Chephren. The Sphinx is one of the largest single-stone statues on Earth. Many facts about the Sphinx are still debated, such as exactly when it was built, by whom, and who the real-life model for the face was. There are many differing theories, sometimes referred to as the "Riddle of the Sphinx" (not be confused with the original Greek legend of the same name!). A tour of the pyramids is not complete without a visit to the Museum of Antiquities in Cairo. And the thought of leaving this area without seeing this intense city of Cairo would be regrettable and the museum sits in the middle of city. The museum houses the greatest collection of pharaonic treasures in the world. Your special tour will include the highlights of these artifacts, including the Tutankhamen Collection of golden treasures, and acquaint you with the museum’s expansive collections. After the tour you will be transferred back to your cruise. Lunch is included and at a nice, local restaurant. Note: Please inquire in advance if you are interested in incorporating a visit to the Egyptian Museum into your trip. We recommend that you bring a good book or your mp3 player for the drive. It is approximately 2.5 hours each way. - If you prefer you can skirt the city of Cairo and we will take you to Sakkara instead. You must let us know in advance. - If you prefer to skip the Museum of Antiquities in Cairo proper, we will bring you to Sakkara instead. Also wonderful. - If there are more than 6 passengers in your group, you will be provided headphones at the Egyptian Museum. Days offered: 7 days a week Departures:
