Overview
You will know this is Spain when you visit the lovely Picasso Museum followed by a wine tasting!
Malaga is charming and widely known as a resort city by the rich and famous. It has become even more so lately as it offers a few new attractions and a newly built marina. It now competes successfully for attention thanks to its profusion of quirky museums, innovative restaurants and stylish hotels, many featuring rooftop terraces with bar, pool and stunning views.
It is a leisurely walk from the pier to the city centre. Your first stop will be a beautiful Picasso Museum, which opened in 2003. The Museo Picasso Málaga was created in response to Pablo Picasso’s desire for his work to be seen in the city where this universal artist was born on October 25, 1881. It was set up thanks to the combined efforts of Christine and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso, whose donations form the Museum Collection, and the Autonomous Government of Andalucía. This museum has triggered the city's cultural rebirth and visitors are now flocking to this port city, which claims many highlights including fascinating monuments from Moorish and Roman times through modern day. Yet it retains its authentic Andalucian feel.
In high season, the Picasso Museum has proven so popular that a queue forms outside in the narrow pedestrian street, with Picasso 'aficionados' patiently waiting their turn to see the works of the great man. We will prereserve your tickets so you will be assured your entry to this lovely addition to the city.
Another stop is the birthplace of Picasso, which we will view from the outside. On the north side of the Plaza de la Merced Square is number 15, where, on the second floor, Pablo Ruiz Picasso was born on 19 October 1881. His father, Jose Ruiz Blasco (1838-1913), also a painter and a teacher at the San Telmo School of Fine Arts, moved to the flat in 1880. Since 1988, it has been the headquarters of the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Foundation.
