Schwerin Castle And Marzipan In LubeckExplore > Germany > Lubeck > Schwerin Castle And Marzipan In LubeckOverviewFor those who prefer a countryside view of northern Germany. The castle is amazing and the setting is a fairy tale. It is Germany of the past. Enjoy a wonderful city tour of Schwerin and a panoramic Lubeck experience. Start your day off with a relaxing 90-minute drive through the lovely Mecklenburg countryside towards Schwerin, a gorgeous town surrounded by picturesque lakes. Upon arrival in the Schwerin area, you'll board a boat for a scenic lake cruise with views of the historic skyline and disembark right in front of the famous Schwerin Castle, a dreamlike fairy tale castle located in the middle of a lake. For centuries, the castle was the home of the dukes and grand dukes of Mecklenburg and later Mecklenburg-Schwerin. It currently serves as the seat of the state parliament. You'll enjoy a guided visit of the old residence of the Mecklenburg dukes and see the magnificent throne hall, library, and other beautiful rooms with unique woodwork, carvings, and inlays. Your tour continues on foot, where you'll discover other Schwerin sights such as town hall, the cathedral, the regional parliament, the old market, and the residential Pfaffenteich district. Your ride will end near the downtown shopping area, where you’ll have some free time to stroll around, enjoying souvenir and handicraft shops along the “Schlosstrasse.” Relax with a cup of coffee before heading back towards Lubeck. Your first stop will be Lubeck, one of the most important mercantile towns in the Baltic and is one of the major ports of Germany. It is even on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites for its brick Gothic architecture! Your tour will be a panoramic one of the city, so you can see City Hall and the Holstentor before visiting St. Mary’s Church, constructed somewhere between 1250 and 1350. For many years, it's been a symbol of the power and prosperity of the old Hanseatic city. The church is the third largest church in all of Germany and is the tallest building in the old part of Lubeck. Along with the city, the church is listed by UNESCO as of cultural significance. During the second part of the city tour, we'll focus more on the history of the Hanseatic League and you'll see highlights such as the Schiffergesellschaft and Holy Ghost Hospice. A stop will be included at the famous Marzipan shop 'Niederegger', as Lubeck is well known for its marzipan creations, which become art in the hands of these artisans. - Please dress comfortably as a portion of the tour is done on foot. - Food. beverages, gratuities are not included. - Your guide inside of Schwerin Castle is included. - Scenic lake cruise is optional and must have full participation.
