For three centuries, the name "de'Medici" was known worldwide. The family's influence continues today through their high regard for art, which has left an indelible mark on Florence and the surrounding region. In fact, the de'Medici's love of art has helped shape Florence into the highly-regarded city of art that it is today. Cosimo Vecchio de'Medici, the first ruling figure of the de'Medici clan, was at the forefront of the campaign to promote artistic endeavors, especially to students and young people. de'Medici, who had a passion for fine art, surrounded himself by artists and sculptors alike, most notably Donatello. With our expert local guide, you will trace the footsteps of this famous family to get an overview of their massive impact left on Florence. Beginning with the family's first home, the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi, and on to their private church, the beautiful San Lorenzo, you will be awed by the immaculate design and attention to detail paid to the construction of these places. Before ending our day, you will see the beautiful Medici Chapels, one of which was designed by Michaelangelo himself. - The price of this tour does not include the per person entrance fees for the Palazzo Medici (€8), Medici Chapels (€8.5), and the Church San Lorenzo/Laurentian Library (€8) to be paid on site. - Please note that on the first Sunday of each month many tourist sites in Italy have free admission. This can often result in long lines. If you are staying at a hotel, it may be beneficial to avoid booking a tour involving inside visits to major attractions on these days. If you have questions, contact ShoreTrips. - The Palazzo Medici-Riccardi is closed on Wednesdays. The Museum Medici Chapel is closed on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Monday of each month as well as the 2nd and 4th Sunday. - The Laurentian Library is only open from 10 AM to 2 PM Monday-Saturday.
