Overview
You won't be seeing any animals in cages here!
If you are lucky, while walking along a river, you will see the elusive Platypus. This unique animal was at first believed to be a hoax made up by an explorer of the new World.
If you live in North America, or Europe, or anywhere other than Australia, you are just as likely to see Big Foot as you are to see a kangaroo when you're out on a hike. Luckily, you are going to Australia, and we have a guide that can help you track down its distinctive wildlife. We'll explore the bush of the Southern Highlands in search of kangaroos, koalas, platypus, emus, and wombats. Sure, you can head over to a zoo and see these animals behind glass, but we think it's time to bust out the adventurer inside all of us.
Ninety minutes outside of Sydney, you will find yourself heading off regularly-traveled roads and into the Southern Highlands for a personalized way of exploring the native bush. Field guides, binoculars, flashlights, and spotlights will be at your service as your on-board naturalist gives you the rundown on everything distinctive about Australian animals. As the afternoon rolls along, your chance of seeing wildlife will grow. Emus can be found in small groups. Wombats predominantly feed at night. Gliders hang out in trees foraging for food. The elusive platypus can be seen out and about on the river around dusk. Walk the tree line in search of the iconic koala. Keep your head on a swivel and your feet light!
Dinner at a typical Australian inn will help break up the day for the perfect rural experience. There isn't a better opportunity than this once-in-a-lifetime wilderness exploration.
