West Indian Art With A Reggae SoundtrackExplore > Jamaica > Montego Bay > West Indian Art With A Reggae SoundtrackOverviewAn all-encompassing cultural experience! When travelling, we are quenching a thirst for discovering unfamiliar cultures. Often, when visiting new places, art and architecture enrich detailed accounts of times past, providing a clearer window than all of the history books you can get your hands on! From the National Gallery West to a tour of Jamaica's unique style of Georgian architecture, this tour focuses on unraveling a vibrant period of Jamaican history all the way to present day. We begin with the National Gallery West, a new development located in one of Montego Bay's most historic buildings--the settlement's first courthouse, once burned to ashes and now restored to its original condition. At its founding, the building's grandeur matched its importance for both political purposes and social gatherings. From plays and balls to galleries, it's only fitting that this is now the home of National Gallery West. See how the works of Jamaican artists follow the nation's growth and political development. If you aren't familiar with Georgian architecture, you will be after the remainder of this tour. See the famous Barnett Street Police Station located on the town's main street. Notice the many churches, the most famous of which is St. James Parish dedicated to St. James the Great. From the "Old Town" to the "Hip Strip" to the more recent luxury resorts and vacation homes, this all-encompassing tour will introduce you to bustling and unique cultures that makes Jamaica a top travel destination. - You will have approximately 30 minutes to purchase souvenirs at a locally-sourced craft market.
