Guided Tour Of Enchanting Évora And ArraiolosExplore > Portugal > Lisbon > Guided Tour Of Enchanting Évora And ArraiolosOverviewExperience the tranquility of authentic Portugal, far from the bustle of big crowds This full day tour invites you to know Évora, classified as a World Heritage City due to its excellent historical preservation over the centuries. You'll also get a slice of the quaint life of Arraiolos, where the slow and peaceful art of living is practiced. After leaving Lisbon, you will be driven to Évora through the countryside roads of Alentejo for a beautiful sightseeing tour by car. In Évora, you will have ample time to walk through its historical center and “feel” the atmosphere of this UNESCO World Heritage City. Due to preservation awareness, little has changed in Évora over the centuries. After reaching the walled city you'll see the enigmatic church of St. Francis and its Chapel of the Bones. Continuing up the narrow streets of the old town you'll find the Giraldo square where the Inquisition once had its headquarters. A stop will be made to the famous Roman Temple and its Cathedral from the 12th century, and also get the chance to take in the architectural splendor of the town's historic university, founded in the 16th century. A contemporary handicraft studio is also on the agenda while in Évora, where you will be able to experience a local artist's haven. After such an intensive cultural morning it will be time to enjoy the pleasures of one of the most creative cuisines of Portugal in some of the local "alentejano" restaurants (meal not included). After a relaxing and delicious lunch, the tour will continue to the "eternal bride" town of Arraiolos, where you will meet the typical Alentejo village. White immaculate houses (that gave the town its nickname) framed with blue or yellow stripes, the castle at the top of the village that keeps guard over the fields of Alentejo, the typical slow pace of its people that know very well the "art of living" and the embroiderers working in the streets making the famous and genuine Arraiolos carpets. These carpets preserve some of the most obvious elements of the Moorish culture of Portugal. After this immersion into genuine historic Portugal, back to the city you go. - Cruise ship passengers will be met at the cruise terminal by their guide, who will then escort them to the touring vehicle, about a 5-10 minute walk from the pier. Hotel guests will be picked up at their hotel. - If a licensed guide is not important to your experience, please refer to our list of tours to book this tour with an English speaking driver. - Entrance fees are not included in the price of this tour.
