The Volcanic Peninsula With Farm Visit

Photo #1 of 2

Overview

Views and sheep. Two of the best things in New Zealand.

There are a couple things that New Zealand is known for throughout the world: unbelievable views and producing a whole lot of wool. Traveling over the extinct volcanic areas of Banks Peninsula, you will take in the amazing sights of Akaroa Harbor and other bays atop a 1,500-foot high volcanic rim. If you walk off your cruise ship in the mood for amazing views, then this will quench that thirst and have you feeling over hydrated. Your local guide, who knows the backroads like the back of his hand, will take you to smaller bays, rural communities, and townships that feature craft shops, cafes, historic displays, and local museums. Your camera will likely run out of memory from trying to capture the breathtaking landscapes. Bring an extra memory card.

With New Zealand's volcanic past as the backdrop, you will visit a local sheep farm, giving you an inside look at the area's greatest export. The visit starts with a delicious morning or afternoon tea and discussions about life on the farm. From there, you will witness sheep dog demonstrations and sheep shearing, which are two of the most integral aspects of the family business. New Zealand's wool boom started in 1951 and you can't drive too far along its roadways without seeing sheep grazing the land. Trust us when we say they are as cute as they look in photos.

- A stop for lunch is built into your itinerary and your preferences can be discussed with your guide on the day of the tour. The cost of lunch is not included in the price of this tour.
- Please wear comfortable walking shoes.

- There are some days when the sheep farm doesn't allow visitors. If this happens to be a day that you have booked, we will contact you with an alternative.
