Ryukyu Kingdom Castle And Market TourExplore > Japan > Okinawa > Ryukyu Kingdom Castle And Market TourOverviewExplore the residence of the Ryukyu Kings! Despite Okinawa's tumultuous history within the frame of World War II, this island is still rich with culture and the Shuri Castle along with the Makishi-Kosestsu showcase a couple of the best spots. Shuri represents the name of the former capital of the Ryukyu Kingdom. The castle you will be visiting was the administrative center and home for kings covering many centuries of their rule before becoming part of Japan in 1879. Today you can explore the interior of the castle buildings in a circular route covering all the aspects of what went into running a kingdom and the luxuries that go along with it. At the Makishi Public market gaze upon local ingredients, fresh fish, meat and fruits all brought in from Okinawa's subtropical land and ocean. When you purchase items on the first floor you can head up the stairs for a chance to eat in the food court and dining area where cooks staffed by the market will prepare your recent purchase. Some of the most rare foods in the area can be found here so make sure you ask your guide what exactly you are looking at! - Food and beverages are not included in the price of this tour. - The Makishi Public market is closed the 4th Sunday of every month. Days offered: 7 days a week Departures:
