Santiago de Compostela has a lot more weight to it than just being another historic city. This hub which is full of dazzling monuments stands as the famous site where Spanish Christians pilgrimage to as it is known to be the burial location of St. James, one of the twelve Apostles of Christ. Religious background aside, this tour will take you to an array of monuments ranging from charming chapels to unique monasteries and historic urban palaces. The cathedral serves as the epicenter with a medieval street plan bringing you to different squares around the area. The Obradoiro Square sets the tone with a famous baroque facade showcasing the cathedral and provides access to the City hall, Sax Xerome College and the luxurious Parador Reyes Catolicos hotel. At Platerias Square you'll see the Chapterhouse from the 18th century, the Horses Fountain and a Romanesque cathedral. Quintana Square is home to the Grapevine House with granite fruits carved into the face of the building, the oldest monastery in the city and the famous "Holy Door." Finally, at the Azabacheria Square, you will see the second biggest monastery in Spain--San Martin Pinario. The perfect combination of historical importance and architectural accomplishment! - Please wear comfortable walking shoes as a majority of this program is done on foot.
