Overview
Tasting rum and relaxing on the beach: a perfect combination!
Get a little tipsy and relax.
A favorite conversation in the Caribbean is about rum. Which is better, older, sweeter, more exclusive. But which one was the first? Rum, back in the day, had many names, including 'rhum, kill devil, and rumbullion. On this tour, you will be introduced to Mount Gay Rum, the oldest surviving rum in the world, dating from 1703. On your tour of the Mount Gay Visitor Center, you will learn firsthand about the creation of rum from sugar cane as you sample it. And you might figure out why it attracted such nicknames as well.
After the tour, take some time to relax at the beach. Carlisle Bay Beach is one of the best and its clear turquoise waters will remind you why you are here. Carlisle Bay is named after the Earl of Carlisle, James Hay, who was Lord Proprietor of Barbados in the 1600s and lies in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its crescent-shaped bay and natural harbour on the west coast of Barbados make it a beautifully protected beach for recreation. Its calm waters make a perfect spot for snorkelers as the marine life flourishes.
