Overview
Just over an hour’s drive from San Jose International Costa Rica airport (SJO), eco-minded travelers from all over the world have reveled in the beauty of Villa Blanca Cloud Forest Hotel, located within the Los Angeles Private Biological Nature Reserve & Research Station in the Canton of San Ramon.
The hotel is ideally situated as a gateway to Arenal Volcano and the famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Here, you’re immersed in one of the world’s most precious and complex jungle ecosystems — the cloud forest. There are very few places in Costa Rica where you can experience, with all the comforts of an upscale boutique hotel, the most unique and endangered type of tropical forests: The Cloud Forest Biological Reserve of Los Angeles.
You’ll be ensconced in a beautifully appointed 19th century recreation of a mountain village. From charming Superior and Deluxe Casitas to romantic private Honeymoon Suites, Villa Blanca accommodations feature vaulted cane ceilings with fans, elegantly handcrafted furniture and a variety of convenience amenities that include fireplaces, private porches and in-room whirlpool tubs in all the suites.
Originally owned by former president Rodrigo Carazo Odio and First Lady, Estrella Zeledon de Carazo, Villa Blanca has become a renown and cherished Costa Rica destination. The architecture reflects the original farm village concept, with a welcoming Hacienda, offering guests exceptional Costa Rican hospitality, premier dining, a private theater, conference facilities, and pampering spa menu. Also quite unique is a replica of a 14th century Roman wedding chapel, La Mariana, with its hand painted ceramic ceiling.
El Sendero Restaurant is a phenomenal dining experience presented in a breath taking room, perched on the edge of the cloud forest. The cuisine is a fusion of traditional regional dishes and popular classics from across the country, enhanced by innovative sauces, spices and combinations of fresh herbs and vegetables hand selected from the hotel’s gardens and greenhouses. The enticing meals are thoughtfully prepared with nutritional sensibility and organic ingredients that compliment their exquisite flavours. An extensive wine list and some of the most sumptuous deserts imaginable are yours to savour and enjoy. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily and the made-to-order breakfast is always complimentary to hotel guests. The lunch menu features also light menu choices and fresh brewed Costa Rican Coffee drinks that are a favourite of local visitors and vacationing guests alike.
El Sendero Restaurant has it’s own bakery where each day fresh breads and pastries utilise fresh ingredients and family recipes combining local traditions with international favourites offering a variety of delicious menu options. Add their selection of entrées and main dishes created by the chef and his dedicated kitchen staff and no wonder locals will drive several hours just to have a meal on the weekend.
With the capacity to serve up to 70 guests for a wedding, incentive or special event, the hospitality shared by the waiters and their hostess are very personal as if it’s just you and your family over for dinner. You can also choose to dine on the Hacienda corridor, overlooking the vista of the vast Cloud Forest Reserve, or for special occasions in El Selencio dining room overlooking the village casitas and rolling pastures of Finca Julieta own by the family of former Costa Rican president Rodrigo Carazo Odio.
Located in the Hacienda, next to El Sendero, is Aqui No Mas, a warm and utterly charming lobby bar where guests can gather to share stories and pictures of the day’s adventures while enjoying great wines, cocktails and non-alcohol beverages as well. Handmade leather sofas and chairs in front of the beautiful stone fireplace help set a most relaxing mood before or after lunch or dinner.
