Overview
Hidden favorites of Santorini.
When you visit a place for the first time there is usually an easily found list of things you shouldn't miss. We understand the appeal and we won't tell you not to do that, but sometimes the hidden secrets of a city are of the most memorable. This private tour will take you to some of our guide's favorite spots providing some of the best views and tastings on the island.
We'll start with a Greek tradition by taking you to a family owned distillery for a local favorite, coffee flavored ouzo. This secret recipe is a modernized version of what was originally a project of monks living in the region. Make sure you try the unique liquor made from the tears of the Masthia tree in this perfect Santorini environment. At the distillery's museum, the owners have lovingly recreated workplaces and rooms from typical homes of Santorini's past. Every room is replicated using original items the owners have tirelessly collected over the years. Walk through narrow paths to the square and the cafe and see the distillation processes of a bygone era.
Next, we'll head to the south side of the island for panoramic views of the volcanic caldera and the half-moon shaped bay which surrounds it. At the black sand beaches you'll learn about the violent volcanic history of Santorini and enjoy life by the shore.
It's time to sample some local foods, as well as local wines, a can't miss activity in Santorini! After diving into some of the local delicacies, you will dive into the past within a small ravine at the foot of Pyrgos. Now considered a ghost village, this area was at the heart of a prosperous wine region before being destroyed by a devastating earthquake. All residents had to abandon the village over a half century ago.
